Are Degrees More Important than Abilities?

In the cartoon, an employer expresses his pity to the young interviewee with a master’s degree. Although the graduate has a good resume, he fails the interview because his competitors are all Ph.D.s. The picture mirrors that nowadays interviewers place greater emphasis upon education background. However, I assume the ability of job applicants should gain more attention.

There are three main reasons to support this view. First and foremost, education background is merely a measure of one’s ability. To put it another way, the cart should not be put before the horse. Besides, in the sole pursuit of employees with high-level education, companies are likely to miss really talented people. Those people may quit school because of financial difficulties or other reasons. For example, Steven Jobs, a real innovator, did not finish his college but started Apple; Bill Gates, one of the richest men on earth, quit university too. One’s talents cannot be only measured by education background. Finally, most of the companies do not specialize in the cutting-edge science. Hence, doctors could be a total waste there.

In conclusion, I believe job applicants should not be evaluated only by their academic degree and the recruiters should appreciate the talents and abilities more.

The picture mirrors that nowadays interviewer place greater emphasis upon education background. However, I assume the ability of job applicants should gain more attention.

There are three main reasons to support this view. First and foremost, diploma is merely a measure of one’s ability. To put it another way, the cart should not be put before the horse. Besides, in the sole pursuit of employees with high-level education, companies are likely to miss really talented people who may quit school because of financial difficulties or other reasons. For example, Steven Jobs, a real innovator, did not finish his college but started Apple; Bill Gates, one of richest men on earth, dropped out too. One’s talents cannot be only gauged by the formal schooling. Finally, most of the companies do not specialize in the cutting-edge science, where doctors could be a total waste.

In conclusion, I believe candidates should not be evaluated only by their academic degree and the recruiters are supposed to appreciate the talents and abilities more.

Is Success Duo More to Luck or to Diligence?

As is shown in the cartoon, a mother tells her son to work hard, but the son thinks luck can also lead to success. This picture drives us to think about a question: What contributes to success? Some claim that success is only rooted in diligent work, but others insist that fortune is also indispensable for success.

It is acknowledged by almost everyone that diligence is necessary in pursuit of success. As we can see, the forerunners in diverse fields, no matter what backgrounds they are from, are all characterized by diligence. Take Jack Ma as an example. There is no doubt that he has gone through numbers of hardships before he achieves his final success. Despite the fact that diligence is a decisive factor in one’s success, luck still plays a supporting role. Success without good luck is almost impossible. Without fortune, how could it be tat Columbus discovered America and changed the world history?

In conclusion, people who work hard can prepare themselves for opportunities when luck knocks. On the way to success, diligence always goes hand in hand with luck.

On Integrity in Business

The above pictures reflect a social phenomenon that some companies are in lack of integrity. As vividly depicted in the pictures, a travel agency promises its clients that it is going to provide them with three-star hotel service but actually it fails to abide by its promise.

From my point of view, this kind of dishonest commercial behavior should be strictly prohibited. The reasons are as follows. For one thing, companies or firms with great integrity can easily leave favorable impressions on the customers and win their respect, which is of great benefit to their future development. For another, reputable companies or firms can more easily get help and support from society.

From what has been discussed above, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that integrity seems invisible, but it is of great significance to companies or firms. They should cherish this invisible capital and join hands to build a society full of integrity and honesty.
