它常常用于句首，作句子的附加成分，表示说话人对所说话语的态度：
eg：
To tell you the truth，I don"t like his new car at all.

语法
【1.】选择疑问句
含有or的问句称为选择疑问句。
or之前的部分读声调，之后的部分读降调。
选择疑问句把选择的余地缩小在数目有限的事物，行动等上面，可以有无限性的选择，三项以及两项选择。选择疑问句通常可以采用缩略形式：
eg：Beef or lamb？
牛肉还是羔羊肉？
1.无限性选择
What would you like to drink？
你喜欢喝什么？
2.三项选择
Would you like tea，coffee，or milk？
你喜欢茶、咖啡、还是牛奶？
3.两项选择
Which/What would you prefer，tea or coffee？
茶和咖啡，你喜欢哪一种？
选择疑问句的回答：句首不用Yes或No，一般根据情况从两个并列的内容中选出其中一种。
【2.】选择疑问句的结构形式：
1.一般疑问句+or+可选择的部分
eg：
(1.)—Shall we have the meeting this week or next week？
我们是在本周开会还是在下周?
—Next week，I think.我想是在下周。
（2.）—Do you like swimming or skating？
你喜欢游泳♀还是滑冰？
—I like skating.我喜欢滑冰。
2.特殊疑问句+可选择部分+or+可选择部分
eg：
（1.）Who is the boy？Tom or Andy？
那个男孩是谁？汤姆还是安迪？
（2.）Which pencil do you want，the long one or the short one？
你想要哪支铅笔，长的还是短的？
（3.）How shall we go，by bus or by train？
我们怎么走？乘公共汽车还是坐火车。
3.一般疑问句+or not？
（1.）Are you playing with me or not？
你到底跟不跟我去玩？
（2.）Did you go there，or didn"t you？
你去了那儿还是没有去？
（3.）Did you or didn"t you go there？
你是去了还是没有去那儿？

1.too （adv.）
也，还（常用于肯定句，有时也用于疑问句，但不能用于否定句。常见于句末，而且too前常有逗号；如果不在句末，too前后都应当有逗号）：
（1.）I like lamb，too.
我也喜欢小羊羔。
（2.）Can I come，too？
我也来，行吗？
（3.）I，too，have been to Hong Kong.
我也到过香港。
2.either（adv.）
也，而且（一般用于否定句，位于句末，前面通常有逗号）：
（1.）He doesn"t like the house，and I don"t like it，either.
他不喜欢这所房子，我也不喜欢。
（2.）If you do not go，I shall not go，either.
如果你不去，那么我也不去。
（3.）I haven"t seen the film and my sister hasn"t either.
我没有看过那部电影，我妹妹也没有看过。
tell的用法：
1.（vt.）讲，告诉：
eg：
（1.）I could tell you a thing or two about her.
我可以给你讲她的一两件事。
（2.）She told the news to everybody in the village.
她把那消息告诉了全村的人。
2.（vt.）吩咐，命令
eg：
（1.）Tell him to wait.
叫他等一等。
（2.）Do what I tell you.
照我的吩咐做。
3.（vt.）表明，显示
eg：
（1.）The government"s policies are beginning to tell.
政府的政策开始发挥作用了。
（2.）All this hard work is telling on him，ie affecting his health，ect.这些繁重的工作他已经吃不消了（影响着他的健康等）。
4.（vt.）＆(vi）分辨，辨别
eg：
（1.）Can you tell Tom from his twin brother?
你能分辨出汤姆和他的孪生兄弟吗？
（2.）These kittens look exactly alike-how can you tell which is which？
这些小猫看上去一模一样-你怎么能分出哪个是哪个？
5. (vi.)泄密
eg：Promise you won’t tell.
你要保证不泄密。
