“问题就在这里，牧师，”比尔回答说。“不错，钟能报时了，但是，恐怕每到1点钟，它总要敲13下，对此我已无能为力了。”
We"ll get used to that, Bill," said the vicar. "Thirteen is not as good as one, but it"s better than nothing. Now let"s go downstairs and have a cup of tea."
“大家慢慢就习惯了，比尔，”牧师说。“13下是不如1下好，但总比1下也不敲强。来，咱们下楼去喝杯茶吧。”
（1）定语从句以及省略that的用法
there"s nothing I can do about it.
这里我截取了一小句，这个句子本身主语只是：there"s nothing. 就已经是一个完整的句子了，但是后面为什么又加了一个I can do about it呢？这里是为了来修饰nothing，说明我什么都做不了。正常情况下，nothing后应该加一个that来引导定语从句，这里为了使句子看起来更加简洁，把that省略掉了，那么什么时候才能省略that呢？
①that在定语从句中作宾语或介词宾语时可省略
He is reading the book (that) he bought yesterday. 他在读他昨天买的书。
②that作从属连词，在句子中没有实在意义，只起到连接作用，以引导宾语从句时，也可以省略。
We are sure (that) we can have a better and cleaner place in the future.
我们相信，我们可以有一个更加美好，更清洁的地方。
③so that … 结果状语从句中的省略
The sound is so weak (that) you cannot hear it. 声音弱得你听不见。
（2）表示习惯的用法
We"ll get used to that. 大家慢慢就会习惯的。
这里get used to就是变得习惯于。而平时我们表示习惯做某事，用的是be used to doing sth.这里大家需要区分一下。
（3）as … as的用法
Thirteen is not as good as one. 13下是不如1下好。
as good as 和……一样好，是形容词的比较级用法。
I just hope our feelings, can be as good as before. 我只是但愿我们的感情，能像以前那么好。
比如还有一些固定搭配
as near as 差一点
as much as 同量的
as well as 和…一样
