除了雅思写作,在线学习(online learning)也是其他各类英语考试写作部分的高频话题。说实话,这个话题是比较好写的,因为它跟我们每一个人都息息相关,几乎每个同学都接触过。提及优点,多数同学会想到:在线学习可以不受时间空间的限制、每个人都可以按照自己的进度来学等等;提到缺点,都会想到互动性不够强、对于自控力比较差的孩子来说不适合在线学习等等。
那么如何就这个话题写出深度、写出新意,可能很多同学还没考虑过。
从深度角度讲,就是把我们想到的每个point通过提问的方式进行进一步挖深。例如:每个人都可以按照自己的进度来学习以取得最佳效果。那么每个人包括谁呢?对于advanced learners,他们可以跳过一些基础知识的介绍,直接进入到最难的环节;对于beginners, 他们可以反复地听基础的部分,直至掌握了才可以继续进入下一环节。那么对每类人群的效果是什么呢?对advanced learners来说,他们是提高了效率,因为在传统课堂上,他们得耐着性子和其他同学听同样的内容;而对beginners来说,他们就避免了原本在传统课堂上的挫折感。
又如提及“互动性”不够时,很多同学都想到师生互动(跟传统面授比)不够,他们容易忽视掉同学之间的讨论互动是不够的。但进一步思考一下,师生互动真的不够吗?把网课分为直播和录播可能又会出现不同的特点。但是有一点是肯定的,body language肯定是不足的,而body language有时对于抓住学生的注意力、把一个知识点讲透是有帮助的。而且,对于特定科目(例如体育)的在线授课,效果肯定是差的。(其实我们这里是从在线课程的类别、互动的形式、及授课内容的种类去切入探讨的,每个分支都可以延伸出新的内容)
如何写出新意,就是跟广度有关的。提及在线教育,同学们一般是从学习者的角度去探讨。但是我们换个立场,从教师或在线教育平台的角度去探讨,是否能有新的idea。教师,尤其是经验丰富的老教师,都喜欢这种新形式吗?都能适应这种新形式吗?对技术的恐惧、设备的不够完善是否会使教学效果打折扣?对平台来说,每天可以产生很多的数据,是否能够比较精准地判断出客户的需求,从而提供更优质的课程?
接下来,我选取一些idea,写两个段落供大家参考。
关于优点:
The growing popularity of online learning offers numerous benefits to both learners and service providers. The most glaring advantage is that it transcends the restraint on time and place, enabling people in the working world to pursue advanced study during off-work hours, and those living the remote areas where quality education resources are in serious shortage to attend classes given by professors from prestigious universities. In addition, online education makes self-paced learning possible, which achieves the best study efficiency for learners of all levels. Advanced learners can speed through or just bypass instruction that is redundant; while beginners can slow their progress through content, eliminating the frustration that they would suffer in a face-to-face teaching session. For service providers, course providers or platforms where various online courses are offered, huge amounts of data generated every day provides an insight into learners’ preferences and levels. Thus, they may develop better courses catering to students’ needs.
关于缺点:
Undoubtedly, the primary concern is that students, especially those younger ones, may be less self-disciplined as in a traditional class, but there are some other drawbacks about e-learning that we cannot afford to neglect. First of all, some experienced elderly teachers with technophobia may not be accustomed to delivering lessons online. Even if they have to, say in the case of the pandemic, their self-consciousness may affect the fluency in teaching. Secondly, how to conduct effective and in-depth interaction is a persistent problem. While more and more technological improvements make teacher-student interaction possible, peer discussion, an effective way to exchanging ideas and generating new ones, is absent. A truly effective communication also involves body language and the change of one’s intonation. It is hard to imagine this can be achieved in a virtual class.
