Vicki:Hi, Jay.
Jay: Hi, where’s the Boston report(报告)? I haven’t seen it yet. Weren’t you writing it, Vicki?
Vicki: Err, yes.
Jay:Good, then can I have it?
Vicki: I’m afraid it’s not ready(准备好的).
Jay:Haven’t you finished(完成) it?
Vicki: No, I couldn’t find the figures(数字) I needed.
Jay:Didn’t I give you a thumb drive(U盘) with all of the information(信息)?
Vicki:Sorry, I lost it.
Jay:Was it this thumb drive? I found it on the floor in the break room(休息室).
Vicki:Oh, yes! I’ve been looking everywhere for this. Thank you, Jay.
Jay: Good. Finish the report. I want it on my desk this afternoon.
Kathy:How many negative questions can you see in this conversation, Molly?
Molly:Sorry, Kathy. I don’t know what negative questions are.
Molly:
Weren’t you writing it, Vicki?
Haven’t you finished it?
Didn’t I give you a thumb drive with all of the information?
Vicki:“Haven’t you finished it?”Vicki回答说No.
Molly:
Kathy:Negative questions can be very confusing(困惑的) in English. Today we’re going to look different ways we use them and you’ll also learn the best ways to answer them.
Firstly, we should know the structure of negative questions.(Structure)
For example:
Is he not a worker?
Did you not know?
Can you not see?
For example:
Isn’t he a worker?
Didn’t you know?
Can’t you see?
Imagine an important guest is visiting your office, and you want to make a good impression and make them feel welcome.
Won’t you come in?
Won’t you sit down?
Won’t you have a drink?
That’s the first way we use negative questions.
Won’t you come and have lunch with us?
Why don’t you have a try?
Why don’t(doesn’t) +主语+ do+ 其他?或 Why not + do + 其他?
Molly:
Kathy:OK,
“Are you going to wear it?”而是说“Aren’t you going to wear it?”
Kathy:Great.
Your desk’s a mess. Aren’t you going to put that in the bin? Why don’t you tidy these papers and wash those glasses up?
Molly:
Kathy:
For example:
Don’t you remember that holiday we had in Spain?
Molly:
Kathy:Good question!
For example:
Don’t you like bananas?
Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.
Molly,
Molly:Yes, I do. No, I don’t.
Vicki“Haven’t you finished it?”
Kathy:Good!
Time and tide wait no man.
