Renew:
v.
1. to arrange for an agreement or official document to continue for a further period of time
renew somebody’s contract/licence/membership etc.
e.g. I need to renewmy passport this year.
2. to begin doing something again after a period of not doing it 〔中止后〕重新开始,继续
e.g. Local people have renewed their efforts to save the school.
3. to remove something that is old or broken and put a new one in its place
e.g. The window frames need to be renewed.
Relieve:
1. to reduce someone’s pain or unpleasant feelings
e.g. Drugs helped to relievethe pain.
relieve tension/pressure/stress etc.
e.g. Some people eat for comfort, to relievetheir anxieties.
2. to make a problem less difficult or serious
e.g. programs aimed at relievingunemployment

3. to make something less dull and boring
e.g. a plain wall relieved by flecks of blue and yellow
relieve the boredom/monotony
e.g. The books helped relievethe boredom of waiting.
4. to free a town which an enemy has surrounded
Rehearsal:
a time when all the people in a play, concert, etc. practise before a public performance
rehearsal for/of
e.g. arehearsal for ‘Romeo and Juliet’
in rehearsal
e.g. The dialogue was worked out by actors in rehearsal.
e.g. Onlythen did she realize she was wrong.
Only by having an independent ego can women fully control their own lives.
e.g.Only when a man’s life comes to its end on prosperity dare we pronounce him happy.
e.g. Only sheknew how to deal with this problem.
