二、常见表达方式

1. Welcome to senior high! I’d like to know what you think of your new school, and how you’re

feeling about it. 欢迎来到高中!我想知道你对新学校的看法,以及你对它的感受。

1) senior high = senior high school 高中

be senior to sb 比某人级别高;比某人年长

be junior to sb 比某人级别低;比某人年幼

He is senior to me. 他的职位比我高。

2) think of/about 认为

what do you think of …? = How do you like…? 你认为……怎么样?/你觉得……怎么样?

What do you think of this book? 你觉得这本书怎么样?

= How do you like this book?

2. Who’s the first person you’ve got to know? How did you get to know each other? 你认识的第

一个人是谁?你们是怎么认识的?

you’ve got to know是省略了关系代词that的定语从句,修饰the first person。关系代词在定语从句中作宾语时,可以省略;先行词被序数词或形容词最高级修饰时,关系代词常用that不用who,所以此处省略的关系代词是that。

3. After I had pictured it over and over again in my mind, the big day finally arrived: my first day

at senior high! I woke up early and rushed out of the door in my eagerness to get to know my

new school. 我在脑海里想了一遍又一遍之后,那个重要的日子终于到来了:我上高中的

第一天!我醒的很早,迫不及待地想要了解我的新学校,就急忙冲出门去。

picture 动词,想象;描写

over and over again 一遍又一遍地

in my eagerness 迫不及待地

in one’s eagerness to do sth 渴望做某事,急于做某事

be eager to do sth 渴望做某事

Some of us are confident and eager to take part in the class activity. 我们中的一些人很自信,

渴望参加课堂活动。

4. I was looking at the photos on the noticeboard when I heard a voice behind me. 我正在看布告

栏上的照片,突然听到身后有个声音。

Sb was doing… when…句式,表示“某人正在做……,这时……”,when 是并列连词,相

当于and then 或and at that time。

I was organizing my words in my head when the girl next to me gave me a nudge. 我正在组织

我的语言,这时我旁边的那个女孩推了我一下。

“正在做……这时/突然……”的其他句式:

be on the point of doing sth when…

be about to do sth when…

I was on the point of going out when the phone rang. 我当时正要出去,突然电话铃响了。

I was about to go to bed when my mom asked me to clean the floor. 我当时正要上床睡觉,这

时妈妈让我扫地。

5. When my English teacher stepped into the classroom, I was surprised to see the same man I had

met earlier. 当我的英语老师走进教室时,我惊讶地看到了我之前遇到的那个人。

“主语 + be + adj. + to do” 该句式中的形容词是表示人的感情的形容词,如 surprised,

shocked, amazed, excited, disappointed, delighted, happy, sorry, sad等,不定式作原因状语,

表示产生这种情感的原因。

“主语 + be + adj. + to do”中,常用不定式的主动式代替被动式,表被动意义。

She will be really surprised to see you. 她看到你会感到很意外。

I"m excited to see my old friend. 见到我的老朋友,我很激动。

We are sad to hear that your father is in hospital again. 听说你父亲又住院了我们心里都不好

受。

The room is nice to live in. 这个房间住起来很好。(to do主动表被动意义)

6. What should I say to make a good first impression? 我该说什么才能给人留下好的第一印象

呢?

make an impression 留下印象

make a good first impression 给人良好的第一印象

leave an impression on sb. 给某人留下印象

This is the best way to make a good first impression and to show you have a positive attitude.

这可以说是给人们留下好的第一印象最好的方法并表示你有一个积极的态度。

7. I had been too nervous to pay attention when he introduced himself! 他做自我介绍时,我太紧

张了,没注意听!

pay attention to … 注意

They no longer paid attention to the bird and never learned what it was doing. 他们不再关注

那只鸟,也不知道它在做什么。

introduce oneself 自我介绍

too … to …太……而不能……:

①该结构有时可与 not … enough to … 或so… that… 相互转换。

He was too weak to walk

=He was not strong enough to walk.

=He was so weak that he could not walk. 他身体太弱了,不能走路。

②当句子主语不是不定式的逻辑主语时,可在不定式前加上for sb. 来引出逻辑主语。

The box was too heavy for me to lift. 箱子太重,我提不起来。

8. Although I was embarrassed, his words made me a lot more relaxed! 虽然我很尴尬,但他的话

让我轻松多了!

although引导让步状语从句。

“make + 宾格 + 宾补”,该结构主要有以下几种形式:

①make + 名词/代词 + 形容词

②mke + 名词/代词 + 不带to的不定式

③make + 名词/代词 + 过去分词

④make + 名词/代词 + 名词

⑤make + it + 名词/形容词 + to do/从句 (it是形式宾语,to do/从句是真正宾语)

The news made him happy. 这则消息使他高兴。

The teacher made him stay after school. 老师让他放学后留下来。

He can make himself understood in English. 他能用英语让别人理解他的意思。

This movie made him a star. 这部电影使他成为一个明星。

He made it clear that he objected. 他明确表示反对。

“make + 宾语 + 不带to的不定式”结构用于被动语态时,to需还原。

He was made to stay after school. 他被要求放学后留下来。

9. Challenges like this might sometimes put you under pressure. But it all depends on what you

do. Keep calm and be prepared. That way, you’ll make the most of your time at senior high. 这

样的挑战有时会给你带来压力。但这完全取决于你做什么。保持冷静,做好准备。这样,

你就能充分利用你的高中时间。

The deadlines and what you need to apply depend on the program. 截止日期和你需要申请什

11. With the English teacher’s support, he thought senior high was easy and felt confident about

be confident of 对……有把握,确信可以…

I feel quite confident about the future. 我对未来很有信心。

12. take part in 参加,参与;其后没有宾语时,不用介词in。

take part in 指参加群众性活动,并在其中发挥作用。

join in多指参加某种正在进行的活动或运动,常与take part in 换用。

join多指加入某个组织或团体并成为其中的一员,也可指加入某人的行列。

attend指参加会议、婚礼、典礼或上课、上学等等。

take part in the sports meeting 参加运动会

join in the discussion/conversation 参与讨论/交谈

join the army/a club 参军/加入俱乐部

attend a meeting/wedding/lecture 参加会议/参加婚礼/听讲座

13. take up 占用(时间),占据(空间);拿起;开始从事

take up a lot of time 占用大量时间

take up spece/room 占用空间

take up a post/position 就任某一职位

The table takes up too much room. 这张桌子太占地方。

Peter will take up his post as the head of the travel agency at the end of next month. 彼得下个

月底将担任这家旅行社的负责人。

14. Lisa graduated from our school last June and is about to go to college in New York. Lisa,

thank you for coming to share your suggestions for high school with us. 丽莎去年六月从我们

学习毕业,即将在纽约上大学。丽莎,谢谢你来和我们分享你对高中的建议。

graduate from 毕业于(学习)

I graduated from college three years ago. 三年前我大学毕业。

graduate in 毕业于(专业)

be about to do sth 即将做

share sth with sb 与某人分享某事(某物)

15. I was frightened at the sight of the test paper. 当我一看到试卷时就感到害怕了。

at the sight of 一看到……

At the sight of the police officers, they ran off. 一看见那些警官,他们便逃跑了。

16. look forward to 期待,盼望

look forward to + 名词/代词/动名词

He was already looking forward to practicing the new music. 他已经在盼望着练习这些新曲

子了。

17. But life is not always easy.但是生活并不总是容易的。

总括性代词或副词与not连用是,表示部分否定。这类总括性词有:all, both, every,

everything, everybody, everyone, always, altogether等。

Not all birds can fly. =All birds can"t fly. 并不是所有的鸟都会飞。

We are not always this busy! 我们并不总是这么忙!

全部否定:表示全部否定意义的词 (none, neither, nothing, nobody, no one, never等)与肯定

形式的谓语动词连用。

None of my friends came. 我的朋友一个都没来。

We know nothing about her family. 我们对她的家庭一无所知。

18.You must have had some moments when you were disappointed. 你一定有过失望的时候。

must have done 一定做过某事

must have done是“情态动词 + have done"结构,表示对过去情况的肯定推测,仅用于肯定

句中。

can’t/couldn’t have done不可能做过某事

could have done本能够做某事而未做

may/might have done可能做过某事

should have done本该做某事而未做

shouldn"t have done本不该做某事却做了

needn’t have done本没有必要做某事却做了

Paul did a great job in the speech contest. He must have practiced many times last week. 保罗在演讲比赛中表现得很好。他上星期一定练习了很多次。

19. If so, how did you desl with them? 如果是这样的话,你是怎么处理的?

if so如果这样的话,它是省略句式,if用作连词,so代替上文的肯定内容,以避免重复。】

而if not意为“如果不是这样的话;不然,否则”。

if possible 如果可能的话

if necessary如果有必要的话

if any 如果有的话

if ever 如果曾经有的话

If so, it seems to be working. 如果是这样,那看来颇为有效。

20. 八种基本句型:

(1) S+V (主语+谓语)

She never lies. 她从不撒谎。

(2) S+V+O (主语+谓语+宾语)

He brings an umbrella. 他带来一把雨伞。

He has accepted our invitation. 他已经接受了我们的邀请。

(3) S+V+P (主语+系动词+表语)

He is a student. 他是一名学生。

They feel happy. 他们感到高兴。

(4) S+V+Oi+Od (主语+谓语+间接宾语+直接宾语)

My mother made me a beautiful dress. 我妈妈给我做了一件漂亮的裙子。

She bought me a new bike. 她给我买了一辆新自行车。

(5) S+V+O+C (主语+谓语+宾语+宾语补足语)

They painted the door blue.他们把门漆成了蓝色。

I find him a reliable man.我发现他是一个可信赖的人。

We saw him swimming in the river. 我们看见他正在河里游泳。

(6) S+V+A (主语+谓语+状语)

He talked too much. 他说得太多了。

Jim runs in the park. 吉姆在公园里跑步。

(7) S+V+O+A (主语+谓语+宾语+状语)

He put the coffee on the table. 他把咖啡放在桌上了

I listened to her story carefully我认真听了她说的情况。

(8) 存现句(there be)

There"s a restaurant around the cormer. 拐角处有一家餐馆。

There are two people waiting outside. 有两个人正在外面等候。

【误区警示】

在there be句型中,be动词在人称和数上要和紧靠它的主语保持一致。

There is a ruler, two pens and five books in the school bag. 书包里有一把尺子、两支钢笔和

五本书。
