When the weather outdoors gets warmer, flowers appear and birds become more active. Spring has sprung!

Sometimes these changes in nature seem to happen overnight.

You go to bed, and the next morning you awake toa new world--one that is greener and more colorful.

The same can be said for expressions that use the word "spring."
和春天的到来一样猝不及防的还有"spring"这个单词构成的一些表达。
English speakers use them to describe things that happen quickly and without much warning.
以英语母语者使用它们来形容事情发生得很快，并且没有太多预兆。
Now, one of the fastest growing things in nature is the mushroom.
在自然界，增长速度最快的生物之一就是蘑菇。
One day mushrooms are nowhere to be found and the next day there is a whole crop of them!
可能今天到处找都没有一朵，而明天满地一大堆。
So, when something happens suddenly and often over a large area, we can say it springs up like mushrooms.
因此，当某件事突然发生，并且波及广大的范围，我们就可以描述为它"让蘑菇一样突然冒出来"，也就是"如雨后春笋般"。
Here is one way to use this expression.
下面是这个表达的使用方式之一。
After videos about making cupcakes became popular online, stores specializing in cupcakes "sprang up like mushrooms" all over town.

Now, some people like mushrooms. And some people don"t. Not to worry!

You can drop the "mushroom" and simply say, "spring up."
你可以丢掉"蘑菇"这个词说，"突然涌现"。
For example, when the large company set up shop in the small town, new houses sprang up seemingly overnight.
比如说，大公司在小镇里设立了新的店铺，新房子似乎是一-夜之间"突然涌现"。
We often use the term "to spring" to describe anything that happens without warning.
我们经常用"to spring (突然) "表达那些毫无预兆就发生的事。
So, if I spring something on you, I tell you with no warning.
那么，如果我"突然"告诉你某件事，那就表示我提前展现没有任何预兆。
Many people do not like to have important news sprung on them.

They want time to prepare themselves.

So, we sometimes use the expression "to spring" as a warning.

For example, "You can"t just spring something like that on me! We need to talk about it first!"

If someone springs big news on you without warning, the news comes to you from out of the blue.

You might say something like, "I have to tell you something" or, "Do you have a minute?" or simply,"I have news!" and then share the information.

This is a way of breaking big news with a warning.

Recently, a good friend of mine told me she was getting married.
最近，我对一个好朋友告诉我她要结婚了。
But she did not even tell me that she was in a relationship!
可是她都没有跟我说过她在谈恋爱的呀!
She must have realized how surprised I was.
她肯定已经预料过我会惊掉下巴。
So, she apologized for springing her happy news on me out of the blue like that.
也因为这个原因，她为自己的好消息对我之突然而道歉。
Now, her happy news is private.
但是，其实她的幸福是私事。
So, she can share it with others or not share it, however she likes.
她可以自由选择与不与别人分享，只要她开心。
But what if the news involves other people?
那么要是这个消息涉及其他人呢?
That is when springing it on someone is a bit more complex.
这种时候，你还是选择突然别人的话就复杂了。
Let"s say two people, Tara and Sam, own a business together.
假设有两个人，塔拉和山姆，一起经营着一家公司。
The company is called Tara & Sam"s Roof Repair.
这家公司叫"塔拉和山姆的屋顶维修"。
They had been building their company for a few years and were finally starting to make a profit.
公司已经建立几年时间了该开始盈利。
Then one day, Tara sprang big news on Sam.
不过有一天，塔拉突然告诉山姆。
She was moving to Alaska ... in a week! She wanted out of the business.
她要搬去阿拉斯加...而且是在一周之内。
Sam was not prepared for any of this.
山姆对此没有任何准备。
A few weeks earlier, they had made plans for growing their client base.
他们本来制定了用户基础扩大计划，几周后实施。
He asked, "A week? How can you spring this news on me?
他问，"一周?你怎么可以这么突然"?
We are supposed to be partners! I"ve spent time away from my family to build this business!"
我们不是伙伴、搭档吗?我花了这么多和家人一起的时间来建立这个企业。
Sam was shocked and angry. But then he saw an opportunity.
山姆及惊讶又恼怒。不过之后他看出这是一个机会。
He asked his son to join the company.
他邀他的儿子加入了公司。
They renamed it Sam & Son"s Roof Repair and soon their business was doing even better than before.
他们重新命名公司为"山姆和儿子的屋顶维修公司"。
And they were able to spend more time together.
同时他们也得到了更多的相处机会。
